In 1923 Dundee Hibernian were reformed as Dundee City. A new kit reflected this. Out went the green/white in favour of white and black in order to distance themselves from their Irish origins

Variations on white/black, often including horizontal stripes or chevrons continued until 1969 when the famous tangerine and black was introduced to give the club a 'brighter' image.
