MAULED AT ‘WELL

James Grady gave United a 1-0 lead on the stroke of half-time, as ‘Well defender Steven Hammell slipped in the box, allowing James Grady an easy poke home.

It had been a drab first half, with Motherwell shading possession on what was a windy afternoon.

The second half was a different affair, with ‘Well storming back. Goals from McDonald and Clarkson gave the Steelmen a 2-1 lead after 57 minutes, and Jim McIntyre netted again to level things, ten minutes later. Motherwell hitstraight back, McDonald netting again just a minute later, before Burns made it 4-2 to Motherwell in injury time.

McDonald, who scored twice for Motherwell, was once trialled at United and turned down by Ian McCall, though to be fair, he was rejected due to his fitness and weight, which were way below what they should have been for a professional footballer at the time.

Fans are now saying that McCall is getting things wrong at United, which I’m sure he is, but we were on an unbeaten four game run before this, and we are also the only team to score against Aberdeen all season (albeit from a penalty). True, we have not made a brilliant start, and McCall needs to ‘gee his troops’, but there’s a long way to go yet.
