Inverness and Dundee United played out a dire 1-1 draw where the goals were the only bright spots.

The SPL pair served up one of the poorest matches of the season and will be best forgotten.

Caley Thistle had never beaten United in a league encounter, but did score a recent CIS Cup success against them.

Much of the talk leading up to the game was whether United boss Gordon Chisholm was likely to be sacked if they lost this one. Inverness boss Craig Brewster would top the wanted list of chairman Eddie Thompson, but he stressed that he's too settled in the Highland capital.

Like every other ground in the country, a minute's silence was observed as a tribute for the loss on Friday of Northern Ireland and Manchester United legend George Best.

The visitors took their golden chance for the lead when Lee Miller slotted home a seventh minute penalty after he was decked in the box by Grant Munro.

Inverness had been 2-0 up at home to Dunfermline in the same timescale a few weeks ago, but now had a mountain to climb. The hosts smashed their way level after 20 minutes in sensational style when big Ross Tokely popped up with an overhead kick.

Just before the break Inverness substitute Alan Morgan - who replaced injured David Proctor - went close with a low drive after he was fed the ball by Ian Black.

The second half was equally as dire, but United's Lee Miller was denied by Mark Brown, who touched his effort on to the bar after 65 minutes. Then David McCracken then sent a header just wide from a Barry Robson delivery as United pressed.

The Taysiders looked the most likely to nick it, but time ran out and they settled for a share of the spoils.
