Dundee Utd 2-0 Dunfermline- Match Report

Dundee United reach second round of Betfred Cup

Simon Murray and Scott Fraser fired Dundee United into the second round of the Betfred Cup with second-half goals to sink Dunfermline 2-0 at Tannadice.

Murray headed United into the lead soon after the interval and Fraser fired home a fine free-kick with seven minutes left to ensure the Tangerines progressed into the last 16 as one of the best second-placed teams behind Group C winners Inverness.

Nick van der Velden threatened to break the deadlock towards the end of the first half but his low shot was well saved by Dunfermline goalkeeper David Hutton in the bottom corner.

But Murray edged United in front in the 49th minute when he headed home from close range following Tope Obadeyi's cross.

United doubled their lead in the 83rd minute following defender Ben Richards-Everton's foul on Henri Anier just outside the box as Fraser curled a left-footed free-kick into the top corner to confirm Dunfermline's cup exit.
