HEALTHY DEBATE ABOUT OUR MANAGER

Last updated : 29 November 2004 By United Mad

I personally thought that when McCall was signed it was the best thing to happen to United since Jim McLean took charge back in the early seventies.

Last season saw us competing in the upper echelons of the (albeit rank at the moment) SPL. This season sees us already involved in a relegation dogfight.

Many people (fans that is) are now calling for McCall’s head on a plate. Saturday’s defeat against an under-performing Aberdeen at Pittodrie have only increased the nae-sayers’ ardour.

There are, however, many people saying that he is the right man for the job, and I’m one of them. But there are things he must sort out, and very, very quickly.

We must start scoring. Jim McIntyre is our top scorer on 8 goals. Mark Wilson has four. No one else has scored more than TWO GOALS ALL SEASON. Excluding McIntyre, our strikers – Dodds, Grady, Scotland and Samuel have scored the grand total of 4 goals between them. Not good enough. Not good enough by a very long way. These four should be at shooting practice seven days a week (if not longer). Incidentally – Dodds has been playing in midfield, but he’s still a striker as far as I’m concerned.

The midfield are lacking creative ability. Show them a video of Arsenal playing or something, and fast! That should show them at least how to make an incisive pass through an opposition defence.

We’ve conceded 27 goals and scored 15. Although we’ve only conceded 8 in the last 9 games – so it would appear our defence is sorting itself out – possibly because Ritchie has re-emerged after injury.

And strikers, fer gawd’s sake – learn to take your chances!!!!!!!

All of the above is easier said than done of course. The 5000 managers in the stands, and the several hundred on the messageboard here will tell you that! But things must change.

WE ARE DUNDEE UNITED – WE ARE BETTER THAN THIS!!
