Houston and co receive cup boost

Dundee United's extra-time victory at Ross County has boosted spirits at Tannadice ahead of Saturday's Tayside derby with St Johnstone, according to manager Peter Houston. United were forced to play an extra 30 minutes of their Co-operative Insurance Cup third-round clash with Ross County in Dingwall as the hosts netted an 86th-minute equaliser. Houston's side prevailed, however, courtesy of a 101st-minute own goal. The result - United's second win of the season - provided a welcome lift after last week's 4-0 Clydesdale Bank Premier League loss at Rangers and ahead of tomorrow's clash with Saints at Tannadice. "Morale has been boosted by winning at Ross County," said Houston. They were chirpy on Thursday and singing in the dressing room and having a bit of banter - that's what a win does for you. "It does lift the spirits again. I don't care if it was against a First Division team or a Third Division team - you have to go to Ross County and win the match and we did. "I'm not saying it was our best performance - nowhere near it - but with their effort and application I think we deserved the win."
