Dundee United - News Round Up

Last updated : 20 May 2002 By Nottingham Arab

Obviously with the season now finished, there isn't a great deal of public activity at the club. Transfer rumours are thin, though it has been reported that Eoin Jess may have to leave Bradford City as they have sadly gone into administration, though Smith is said to be politely biding his time with that one. Speaking of Bradford, the deal to sell Alan Combe to the Yorkshire club looks very doubtful, also due to their financial difficulties there. Mr Smith also claims to have not given up the chase for signing Tom Boyd from Celtic, though the veteran midfileder says he wants to stay at Parkhead for another season.

Other news: Steven Thompson finished the season as the club's top scorer with ten goals, six in the league and four in the cups. Now I'm not knocking Thommo here, but our top scorer has ten goals!!! Hardly convincing is it? Thommo has his detractors, and his fans, and I personally haven't seen enough of him to have an opinion on the man himself, but we do need a striker who can, well, strike! Come on Thommo, let's have twenty next season.

United unveiled their new black kit last week. Looks like it's gonna be popular with the fans, and should drum up a few coppers for the club.

The club seems quite stable at the moment. We're not too bad on the park, and hopefully (fingers crossed) we're not going to do a Motherwell or an Airdrie (no disrespect to those clubs intended). Here's hoping for next season. John Blackley, our assistant manger is saying on the Club's Official Website that with a couple of summer signings he has great hopes for next season. I for one hope he's right.

Now, where did Dundee finish in the league compared to us?
