A News Round Up - 12/06/02

As the season ends, fans and supporters alike wonder who the summer signings will be. There's talk of Maldini and R.Carlos going to Manchester United. But because i'm a Dundee United fan I will explain rumours and news about the club. After a dodgy season defensively with Griffin injured and Lauchlan being acompanied in the center with a couple of youths, Smith was looking at the defensive options on the transfer market. Catching his eye was veteran bhoy Tom Boyd but this looks unlikely as he has just signed a new 1 year extension on his contract at Celtic. But a rumour surfaced that Smith is trying to lure Alex Cleland back to Tannadice.

On the attacking front we have been strongly linked with Eion Jess and Scott Booth but looks unlikely that we will get both of them at the same time due to high wage demands (but it's better than being on the bru !!!). Also former Hearts midfielder Juanjo has hinted at a move back North and Smith is interested. He is also interested in Gary Locke, another victim of the Bradford administrative problems due to the collapse of ITV Digital. During pre-season United are set to line up against Arbroath at Gayfeild on the 20th of July, and a week later on the 27th of July, line up against Coventry at Highfield Road. Also it looks likely that United will play a friendly in Austria, followed by two friendlies in Germany against 1816 Munich at the gigantic Olympiostadion and a game at the AOL Arena against Hamburg.

United are also boosted by the news that Charlie Miller and Danny Griffin are in the middle of contract negotiations.

And finally the season ticket package has been released offering a family ticket and a free memorial strip (worn in 1983) with the season ticket buyer's name on it.
