UNITED DRIFT TO FOOT OF TABLE

Last updated : 12 March 2005 By United Mad

Ian McCall’s job is now under threat. Officially. It has been with the majority of fans for several months, some haven’t liked him from the start. Today’s result was surely, for all Arabs, the final nail in the coffin? As far as fans’ opinion is concerned anyway.

We are bottom of the SPL and are probably now joint favourites with Livingston to go down.

If we do not pick up points between now and the end of the season – we will be playing first division football next season. Even if we do survive the drop, which is becoming increasingly unlikely, what then? Let’s say we finish 11th, and haven’t won the cup.

You would have to say that is a very bad season, and we certainly won’t finish out of the bottom three. Four wins from 29 games is shocking. I could shout and moan and complain all day ‘it has to end now’ etc etc but what good would it do?

Today we missed a glorious chance to go in front – and straight after that Killie went up the other end and scored. We were then awarded a penalty, and missed it. In the second half we gave away two sloppy goals and the game was over – actually it was over after the second. This is the story of United’s season, and I can see no improvement. Our only hope lies in the possibility of the teams around us not pulling away.

The fans stayed away today as well, with only around 300 turning up to support United. It was also Killie’s lowest gate of the season. Who can blame Arabs though for not going? It has been the same at Tannadice too, with many empty seats in recent games.

But what of McCall? Can he survive this? Who knows? But Arabs are very, very unhappy at the moment – and if it was up to them he’d be gone.
