THOMPSON REFUSES TO COMMENT BUT....

“Dundee United will part with manager Gordon Chisholm in the next few days, BBC Scotland understands.” BBC

“…the dying days of Gordon Chisholm’s management” Herald

“…Gordon Chisholm would not have realised as he gave his half-time team talk, with his side already 2-0 ahead, that it was actually time for last requests.” Times

“GORDON CHISHOLM’S 10-month reign as manager of Dundee United looked to be over last night” Times

“Yesterday’s Tennent’s Scottish Cup defeat from Aberdeen at Tannadice will spell the end of Gordon Chisholm’s reign as Dundee United manager.” The Sunday Post

What right have the press got to say such things? Is this journalism? Have they been digging up hard-to-find facts? Speaking to people in the know? Quizzing those behind the scenes? Speaking to Eddie Thompson? No.

It IS NOT the job of the press to hire and fire managers from/for club or country – and I mention country because I live in England, and the press here also think they do the hiring and firing. The paying fans have every right to voice their opinions, to demand change, and even, to an extent, a journalist has this right too – but to CATEGORICALLY STATE THAT HE WILL BE SACKED WITHOUT THE SLIGHTEST HINT OF AUTHENTICATION OR SUBSTANTIATION IS A COMPLETE DISGRACE BY LAZY JOURNOS WHO COULDN’T CARE LESS.

Are they getting paid for this?

Only the BBC above have suggested they have an ‘understanding’. The rest have stated quite plainly that GC will get the sack. I’m sorry, but that’s not journalism – and any infant who follows Scottish football via teletext alone could predict the possibility of Chisholm’s departure. Any hack who has the gall to say ‘we told you so’ over this one is an incompetent fool, and they really should all be ashamed of themselves.

If it comes true, and let’s face it – there’s an extremely strong possibility, then these journos will be patting themselves on the back as their collective genius has yet again forecast a correct outcome.

I rarely swear in these articles – but what a bunch of….
