Kilted Arab Gives Us His View Of Today's Events

Last updated : 27 February 2005 By Kilted Arab
This is my view and this is not necessarily the views of anyone connected with Utd Mad or DUFC!

Today was a great day to be an Arab!. I mean that wholeheartedly! Today I saw a glimpse of the past, a glimpse of the good times an (hopefully) a glimpse of what is still to come. McCall made the right selection as far as tactics and starting 11. He told them to take Aberdeen by the scruff of the neck and attack them mercilessly. Best of all, the players entertained the fans.

Entertainment is a big issue for me. Sometimes we would take a shabby win over losing points. I have yearned to see some of the confidence that is displayed in the current Hibernian team to be at United. We have always known that we have all the tools to do this. We have a decent team. We have a motivational manager. We know that McCall can get it right sometimes.

If a week is a long time in politics a month but be a lifetime in the world of association football. In the press prior to the 4th Round game against Queen of the South, we had a manager who’s very future at the club was threatened. Lets face it, results were not as we would have hoped and we had just taken 7 off a very mediocre Rangers side. League form was not as we, the fans, the directors or anyone who was associated with DUFC were looking for. The only bright spots is that we had got to a semi final of a trophy and were still in the Scottish cup. 4 weeks on and his jacket is slightly less shaky than it used to be, if results go our way on Wednesday we will be 9th in the league and fast approaching a second semi final. (draw to be confirmed) He has turned it around. Let us not be all complacent. We need every point between now and the end of the season. I want this to be a winning season.

Today’s game was mind blowing!. I have no other phrase to use for this. I had predicted prior to this game that we would be 1-0 up at half time and a 2-1 victory at full time. I had no idea that we would win so comprehensively and the fans chants of “Easy Easy Easy” were a reflection on what was occurring on the park. When Grady’s goal went in at the shed end the game was sealed and we did not stop and kept at them. I felt we could have easily have inflicted a humiliating result on Aberdeen if we had been more on target. I cannot fault the team as they pulled together magnificently. Crawford, Bullock, Wilson, Kerr, Scotland the candidates for MOM were endless. I couldn’t believe how quickly Aberdeen’s head went down after the 3rd goal. When we started the 2nd half as we had finished the 1st one, it became apparent to me that there was no way we were not bound for the semis.

Lastly a big shout out to the supporters who decided to come out today. We were in depleted numbers but the reception we gave the players, the noise we made and the ones who came out today to back the team (even if it was on the TV) both Sheep and Arabs deserve a big shout out. The Sheep fans were not exactly quiet and made for a good atmosphere. Best of all we were entertained.

Here is a big shout out to all who are swaying about going or not going to the league game against the Sheep on Wednesday. I would hope that today’s performance would convince the swaying public that we do have a team who may be capable of climbing the league. We have the balls to carve out a performance. Make no mistake, Calderwood will have his troops fired up. His team is in freefall and they may soon be shouting for his head if he cant even get a shabby win. We NEED the 3 points. With the correct results we could shoot up the table. Also we have a £5 discount offer so please feel free to bring a non season book holding friend. Get more bodies in singing United songs and create the same positive atmosphere on a much larger scale as we had today.
