Kilmarnock preview by Wishae Arab

Well all good things come to an end, or so it’s said, so this correspondent is hoping that our long run of poor results against the Ayrshire side will come to an end on Saturday. Mind you I’m sure I said that the last time we played earlier in the season, and having done some forward calculations I’ve worked out that my 100th United game in a row will be on the day we play them at Tannadice in January – should I abandon this daft run now?

I can’t see any particular reason for this dreadful sequence of results either – it’s not as if they are any better a side than we are, although our respective league positions tell a different story.

I’m writing this on Wednesday night (well in the early hours of Thursday actually) and so events could overtake me and we might have a new manager in place by the weekend, but if not I’m struggling to think of anything Hegarty could do that would persuade ET to keep him in the job permanently.

It’s all very well the players continually harping on in the press about how much they want Heggy as the manager, but if the performances on the park don’t improve, they certainly won’t get their wish granted!

Why has Cummings been dropped? I certainly think he’s a better-looking player than McCunnie on present form, and I prefer Duff at right back. Paterson did absolutely nothing after coming on as a sub on Tuesday to persuade me that he should start the game, and Wilson looked distinctly jaded after his under-19 Scotland jaunt.

No starting place for O’Donnell either in the midweek CIS cup-tie, but perhaps that was just to give the young lad a rest. It’s hard to remember at times how young some of the players are!

I think McIntyre certainly would be pencilled into my starting eleven ahead of a few others, and was pleased to see Arabest shared my opinion in his report card article. I’m not so agreeable with his assessment of Lauchlan and McGowne tho!

Prediction time then and despite having slaughtered the team from front to back I’m back on the optimism pills and I’m backing the Tangerines to sneak a shock 3-0 victory, with my “most improved player of the season”, namely Thommo, to grab another brace!
