"Craig will have to be the defining factor in deciding exactly what we do with these individuals. We're going to sit down and discuss it. There's the odd contract that runs longer than Craig Brewster would want.

"With the management we've got, the wage bills and the transfer fees, we've got to be be a top-six club," he said.

"We're not going to be this year, although it's mathematically possible up to the next game, but next season, let there be no doubt, we've got to achieve these aims."

Speaking of the long term plans for the club, the chair said:

"After we announced our results for June 2003, we embarked upon a three-year plan to return the club to break even operationally and then to return the club to profitability," added Thompson.

"I am pleased to report that, despite ongoing financial pressures affecting Scottish football, the 2005 accounts show positive improvements in all areas and confirm that recovery is well underway."

“Dundee United’s Annual Accounts for the period to June 2005 confirm that financial recovery is well underway with the Operating Loss reduced by over £1m from £1.497m to £488k, an improvement of 67% on the prior year. The Net Loss figure has also been reduced from a record high of £2.87m in 2003, to £1.17m in 2005.

Turnover was increased by £1.5m as a result of several factors, including increased revenue from cup competitions and sales from the new Club Shop.”
