Celtic preview by Wishae Arab

Well who would have picked a game against the SPL champions as their first in charge? However that’s the task facing United legend Paul Hegarty following his appointment at the start of the week by Eddie Thompson.

It’s so long ago since we beat Celtic that I can’t even remember it, although no doubt some statistician will prove me wrong! However just as we proved last Saturday at Kilmarnock, every run has to come to an end, and it would be a stupendous start for Hegarty if he could start off with a home win on Sunday, and on television at that.

Can we do it? Well Motherwell pointed the way earlier in the season, although one of my patients pointed out this morning that they hadn’t won a game since then! Partick Thistle came close in midweek, admittedly against a weakened Celtic team, and Dunfermline ran the other half of the bigot brothers close on Thursday night.

So, perhaps overdosed on my optimism pills, I’m going to forecast a shock 2-1 United win, with Stephen Thompson strengthening his claim to a substantially improved contract by scoring yet again.

No team news that I’ve come across at this stage (Friday night) other than that one change is likely to be made, and I’m fairly certain that it will involve young Wilson dropping out of defence to make way for a more experienced defender. My biggest fear is the “one striker up front supported by Charlie” scenario, and I sincerely hope Hegarty has noticed that this just won’t work against the old firm!

I’m looking forward to this game with more than the usual “tingle” so let’s hope that my prediction comes true!
