Airdrie match preview by Wishae Arab

Well it’s away from the SPL campaign on Tuesday when we visit Airdrie in the third round of the CIS cup. Airdrie are of course the re-vamped Clydebank playing in the defunct Airdrie’s ground. Confused? You soon will be - the ground’s no in Airdrie it’s really in Chapelhall!

After Saturday’s collapse I’m taking nothing for granted. On paper the Lanarkshire outfit should be no match for even the bottom SPL club, languishing as they do in the mid to lower reaches of the second division.

However regardless of the fact that the CIS cup no longer carries an automatic UEFA cup place it IS still a trophy and any small club loves to claim the scalp of a bigger one.

I doubt the crowd will be very large – Airdrie played local rivals Hamilton on Saturday and only just passed the 1500 mark, and going by the number of Arabs who stayed away from the home game against Queens Park not many will venture into deepest Lanarkshire on Tuesday night.

It’s a nice wee stadium tho if you haven’t visited it and whatever your views on the current management are the team needs your full support!

Predictions?

Well assuming McCracken’s missus has delivered her bairn I’d be looking for the young lad (no not the bairn) to make an appearance in the middle of defence, alongside either Griffin if he’s fit or McGowne if he’s not.

Charlie pulled a hamstring (oh for a loudspeaker announcement to say – Mr Hegarty is substituting Charlie Miller cos he’s injured – we all felt so embarrassed having booed his substitution for the second game in a row) so I wonder whether Heggy will give Gunlauggson a shot at the midfield role?

What about a change in formation to freshen things up? That 3-5-2 in the second half at Easter Road looked pretty good, and momentarily on Saturday I thought that was in Heggy’s mind, but alas it was just a reshuffle.

Scoreline?

United to go through in extra time.
