When all is said and done, we will still go back for more.

As the stands emptied…

…around me yesterday with a full 7 minutes of the game to go, I stood, reflecting on why I put myself through this each game with Dundee United. It would be the easiest thing in the word to try and make a statement as say ‘I'm not going back' or ‘I'm no giving them anything else until they start giving to me' but the harsh reality is that I will be back, we will all be back because it is in our blood.

Most of the guys who I attend the match with were back in the pub long before Rangers 3rd goal yesterday and if there was 500 united supporters left in the stands at Full Time id obviously got my estimate way out but ALL of these guys will be back in their usual seats come the next game because of just what Dundee United means to us.

We have all probably tried staying away and missing games over the years. The alternative to standing there watching poor performances is sitting in the house watching the scores with the radio on and also, perhaps, internet coverage blaring all in search of a United winning goal. When United play bad, my wife and kids bear the brunt of my moods, when they play good and win, I am the greatest husband and father in the world.

Nothing affects us like football and nothing means more to us on a Saturday afternoon than the Dundee United result. Most of the the week i am a very good husband and father but for the hour and forty five minutes United are playing I am the most selfish person in the world. Whilst statements like that might not make the greatest reading, they are fact and that's the reason how, no matter how badly our team kicks us in the teeth we will always give them our support. All you have to do is read the message board today to see how hurt, angry and dismayed several life long Arabs are with things just now and it won't get better any time soon. One thing i am sure of is that the manager and most of the board members will be hurting as badly as the rest of us and will do everything in their powers to turn thing around.

I don't have to preach to you guys to stick with it because I know we all will- true football supporters never give up. We sometimes get fed up, disenchanted and swear we have had enough but ALL of us will act like bairns on Christmas Eve come the first game of next season. Already, I can't wait.
