Alex Smith signed 32-year-old central defender Kevin McGowne from Kilmarnock. The man hasn't lost at Tannadice for six years! If he makes it another six I'll be very surprised. Welcome aboard Mr McGowne. He's been known to notch a few too.

On the field, United have played two friendlies in Austria, winning the first against Brazilian Premiership oufit Ituano Sao Paulo 2-1, goals - Griffin and O'Donnell. A good victory against a side who had been impressive recently. Galatasaray followed two days later and United lost 3-1, though they went down 2-0 down very early in the game. Paterson netted a consolation for United.

In internet land, Arab Baz produced the most blatant Dee-baiting yet on the messageboard this close-season. He produced the first ‘ascii art' piece (click here for an example) that I've seen posted on a messageboard. Blatant Dee-baiting but class none the less.

Tangy took over as webmaster over at ArabFever. Tangy is a dedicated Arab, and I personally wish him all the best.

Coming up are games against Rot Weiss Erfurt on the 14th of July in Austria, then away at Brechin (16th July) , Arbroath (20th) East Fife (23rd) Alloa (25th) and Coventry (27th). These games should be a hoot, and I hope they are well attended, as I fear all clubs may be feeling the pinch. The season kicks off for real at Partick Thistle on 3rd of August.

Season tickets are said to be selling well, and that is good news also.
